A balance diet should include protein, fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy.
Protein
You should choose seafood, lean meat and poultry, eggs, beans, peas, soy products, unsalted nuts and seeds as your protein sources.
Fruits
Make sure to eat a variety of fresh, canned, frozen, and dried fruits.
-Try to stay away from fruit juices
-Look for canned fruit packed in its own juice
-Be aware that dried fruits have extra calories
Vegetables
Make sure to eat a variety of fresh, canned, frozen, and dried vegetables.
-Look for canned and frozen vegetables lower in sodium
Grains
Always choose whole grains.
-Limit refined grains
Dairy
You should eat fat-free or low-fat dairy products.
*Also aim to limit added sugars and saturated/trans fats.
